Become a Member of the VFW

Department Member-at-Large status is open to any eligible veteran, or to any eligible member of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty.

VFW membership eligibility consists of three criteria:
  • United States Citizenship
  • Honorable Military Service
  • Recognized Campaign Medal.  Am I Eligible?

  • Proof of eligibility will require that you present a copy of your DD-214.
    •     - If you need a copy of your DD-214, either Apply On-Line or Download SF-180 and mail in the application.


    Applications received and processed prior to August 1, membership is credited to the current calendar year. Applications received after August 1 will be credited to the next year.
     
    Members-at-Large may apply for transfer of membership to a local post at any time and may become a Life-Member by paying the proper fee when eligible. Contact any Post officer to apply for Life Membership.
     
    The Veterans of Foreign Wars reserves the right to disapprove applications and to require further proof when it is necessary to prove eligibility.
